Fiddler On The Roof Tickets

  Fiddler on the Roof is an award winning musical that is full of love and drama. The story takes place in 1905 in a small Jewish village in Russia.  The story is about a dairyman named Tevye and its about his attempt to keep life and his traditions constant even in an inconstant world.  His eldest daughter named Tzeitel begs him to not be in an arranged marriage with a middle aged butcher but to marry the poor tailor that she is madly in love with.  Tevye must choose between his daughters happiness or his beloved traditions that help keep their world constant. 

  The movie and the musical are based off of “Tevye and his Daughters” or “Tevye the Milkman” which is a tale told by Sholem Aleichem.  The music in the musical is written by Jerry Bock with the lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and the book by Joseph Stein. 

  The original Broadway production opened in 1964.  This musical was the first to surpass the 3,000 performance mark.  It also held the record for the longest running musical for ten years until the Musical Grease surpassed it.  It remains today as the fourteenth longest running show in all of Broadway history.  The whole production was said to be “extraordinarily profitable and highly acclaimed”.  It was nominated later for various Tony Awards, 10 to be exact.  It was nominated for Best musical, book, score, and choreography.
