Fences Tickets
The Tony Award winning Viola Davis will join
the Academy Award winning Denzel Washington in the new Broadway hit “Fences”. The 13 week engagement will play the Cort Theatre with Kenny Leon as director
and producer. This play takes place over a 8 year span from 1957 to
1965. It’s a story about a Pittsburgh sanitation worker who dreams
of a baseball career. Unfortunately for him he was too old when the
major leagues began to admit black players.

The drama follows Troy maxson, a former baseball player in the Negro leagues
who is now pushed downward to collecting trash on the streets. He
must deal with his headstrong football player son who has a chance to go so much further than he did or
could. While at the same time his wife constantly reevaluates their
marriage when Troy comes home with the baby he fathered with another woman.

Denzel Washington won an academy award for best actor for “Training Day” in
2001 and for best supporting actor for “Glory” in 1989. Viola Davis
won a Tony for Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for her performance in August Wilson’s “King Hedley
2”. She was also Tony-nominated for Wilson’s Seven
Guitars. She won Drama Desk and Obie Awards for her performances in
Intimate Apparel and Everybody’s Ruby. She was even nominated for
an Academy Award, Golden Globe, SAG and Critics Choice Awards and even won a National Board of Review for Best
Breakthrough Performance for “Doubt”. The star actors in this play
might be said to be “over-qualified” with all their many awards.
